Archeologe Dilara Kenner en haar vriend ingenieur Tyler Locke raken betrokken bij een complot van een godsdienstfanaat die met behulp van een bij de ARK gevonden uiterst dodelijke bacterie een Nieuwe Wereld wil scheppen door het grootste deel van de wereldbevolking te doden. Hun strijd voert hen uiteindelijk naar de berg Ararat waar zij het geheim van de ARK ontrafelen. Zeker niet het eerste boek over de zoektocht naar de Ark van Noach, maar wel een die opvalt door de enorme hoeveelheid snel afwisselende acties. De liefhebber van spannende boeken waant zich in een wilde achtbaan in dit boek dat feitelijk een dertien in een dozijn verhaal is, maar toch boeit tot het laatste hoofdstuk. Het taalgebruik is niet moeilijk, de karakters en ingredienten zijn voorspelbaar: helden zijn helden en boeven echte boeven die voortdurend de kogels opvangen en natuurlijk in groten getale het onderspit delven. Des te knapper dat het de auteur in dit debuut lukt om ook ervaren spanninglezers te blijven boeien. Paperback met vrij kleine druk.

In each of these books by the author of Bodywatching an introductory essay is followed by a question-and-answer section (items one to four pages in length). The questions include ones about mating, hunting behavior, and physical characteristics. Morris writes very well, and his answers are often witty as well as informed. Nearly any reader would find these books interesting. Unfortunately, all of Morris's information is available from such other sources as encyclopedias and general dog and cat books, so a purchasing library is getting little new for its money. If your budget permits "extra" buying in the pet area, do acquire these books. Your readers will like them. But if the budget is tight, they are marginal purchases. Susan Matusak, Wilson Coll.
